Default Upcycling Treat Logs

So I haven't really seen Hoshi chew on the log as much as he used to. just his crunchy food, and the timothy I have for him.

So this treat log I'm talking about, used to have gourmet seed blend and alfalfa in it, but now all that's left is the log.
What I'm wondering is, if anybody knows of a recipe I can make at home to stuff in the log that could possibly solidify.

I want it to be something that can stay IN the log and not easily pulled out so that he can continue to chew the log. All I can think of is smearing peanut butter on the inside. I could try breaking and stuffing it with more of the timothy hay I have till it's really packed in. But making a mix that I can pour INTO the log and letting it solidify would be GREAT!

If not I would very much like any feedback of some sort.
Thank you very much!

Hi, I've bought one of those logs for my ham for Christmas. They look fun. But I've not had one before so no good ideas about what you could fill it with. But even if it's something that they can pull out would still be a fun game for them. Or you could wrap some seeds etc in some toilet paper & push that in the hole for them to pull out and chew apart?

You could get some of his normal food, mash it into a sort of powder, add a little water to make a paste. Then add some timothy hay and other small seeds like sunflower, millet, flax, sesame, peanut, crushed brazil nuts or pumpkin seeds. Mix those in the paste and add it to where the other mix was in the log. Put it in the oven for about 10 minutes (when it's in the log) so it hardens. I'm sure he'll enjoy it.

Peanut butter isn't really healthy for them so I wouldn't use it unless it's completely natural with no added sugar.

I also find adding oats to it helps thicken and hold the paste together.

I put Cleo's log in her cage yesterday and it already seems popular so I'll be intrigued to see what works well to use it with after. Sadly I don't think my OH will run with a suggestion of "but I need a rabbit so I can reuse this log."

I don't know if peanut butter is bad for them, but you can try making layers like in a casserole, but horizontally! So first smear some peanut butter in the log to make it sticky, but not too much because I think it would be too "movable". Then tilt it over and stuff it with layer of hay, then get a little wad of peanut butter and make little barrier. Then add a layer of seeds, then secure it with a wad of peanut butter, then the hay, etc.

Maybe you could substitute the pb with flour paste? It's edible and it'll hardens and stick together when it's all dry. A lot of people use it as a pet safe glue. All you need is flour and water and mix it till it's glue consistency. Then maybe secure your log vertically with all the treats already stacked up and then pour in the mixture and let it sit and dry.

I'm not gunna lie I can see this going wrong many (messy) ways, but with a few tries you'll probably get it right!
