Default Bunny Hamster Dream food?

I`m not sure anyone on here (or perhaps a few?) use this food from Zooplus called Bunny Hamster Dream Basic or their dwarf version?

Currently, my Russian dwarf who is nearing his second birthday this month and still very much enjoying life, is fed on JR Farm Dwarf mix and Burgess Supahamster with some added bits and pieces. He also gets a broken Science Selective biscuit in his food.

Normally I just re-order the JR food from Zooplus but usually have to pay for extras I don`t need in order to get the cheaper p&p costs as I never spend over their £29 get free delivery option, which is annoying when you only need a bag of hamster food and have one hamster!

Anyway, I liked the sound of the ingredients in this food because the JR food always seems to have rotten pieces of corn in which I remove, even though the `use by` dates are always very good. So nothing major.

I was thinking about looking at other alternatives for Chubs for varieties sake but quite honestly, I won`t be adding or switching to anything else unless it`s easily obtainable and worth the money as many of the hamsters foods that are easy to get hold of are the ones full of alfalfa and extruded biscuits. Neither of which Chubs ever eats.

Be interested to hear too of any similar foods to the JR mixes or mixes that anyone uses that are that bit different to the normal Burgess or Harry Hamster type foods. Just looking at options right now really. No high protein though as he`s an older chap now! x

The Bunny food was well liked in the past by breeders but it is very pricey. Mel at Wellington used to work somewhere where they imported it and sold it as it is a German food. At that time a lot of people fed this with good results.
I'd give it a go RH and see what he thinks.

I've used it as one of my mixes for ages & all my hams enjoy it, I also find it the best mix for soaking for Flynt so if you ever need soft food it's handy too.

Thanks for that soufflé. I just had a quick look at it on Zooplus and the ingredients do seem well varied and I felt it was something I could add a small amount to what Chub`s already eats. The only problem is, I can`t buy one bag of it without spending £15 or more, which happened when I bought four bags of their JR Farm mix and still have a bag of that to be used, so I imagine it will take a wee while for him to get through that anyway which gives me time to look at other options. It`s a shame this Bunny mix food isn`t available elsewhere in the UK or online at a more sensible p&p rate. I would probably go for the Syrian version as Syrian mixes always seem to have more in them than the dwarf versions! x

Sorry cypher, we posted at the same time! Yes, it`s just the amount over the p&p that`s the barrier really. x

There isn't much difference between the dwarf & syrian with this other than some apples & peppers I think, I did try one bag of the syrian once & for some reason the hams were a bit off with it!
It is a bit expensive although a bag lasts a fair while, I know the minimum order & postage is a bit of a pain too but if you can stretch to it (maybe buy Chubs something nice for Xmas while you're there ) it's definitely worth it.

Oh, he`s more than worth the postage limit, that`s for sure! He`s content eating what he gets but I do feel that sometimes adding something new can only be of benefit as they age. A bi like we do to keep our body function better by eating a varied diet and not sticking to the same old tin of soup or chips and beans!!!

Thanks for the input guys and I`ll have a ponder over the weekend. I`m not sure there is anything similar on the market that has the same or similar variations, which is a shame. Chubs loves his nosh so I can only give him the best and cost isn`t really the issue really. Not the actual food itself but the sneaky way Zooplus won`t allow us to order just one or two items and pay the lower postage. x

Well I`ve took the plunge and ordered a bag of the Bunny Dream food from Zooplus, the normal version. Should be interesting for Chubs as he does like new things. I also ordered another bag of the JR Dwarf mix because he enjoys the millets in that particular mix and I still have an un-opened bag, so he should have plenty to keep him going for a wee while! Well....it is Christmas after all! x

Hope so Serendipity. I`ll add a small amount to his usual diet and see what he picks out! I bought a bag mainly just to add a little of something new rather than switching foods. He`s happy enough with what he gets now, but as with all hamster foods, some parts get uneaten and I like him to have variety so he never gets bored with what he eats. x
