Hi all. We're almost all sorted now for the new arrival of our first hamster in a few weeks time.
I've been out buying food today. I got Harry Hamster as that's what the pup is being fed on by the breeder.
One question I do have is regards to seeds and the like that are marketed towards birds. I'm thinking specifically of the likes of sunflower seeds and dried mealworms. They only seem to be in the bird food section of pet shops - are these sorts of things 'processed' specifically with birds in mind or are they fine for hamsters ?
I'll let someone else answer that, as I'm not sure, but personally I only get things that are labelled for hamsters. Although you can buy sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds in the supermarket on the bakery section! Mealworms are best freeze dried. Don't give live ones, they bite.
I often buy bird seed or dried mealworms from the bird section of shops, its totally safe. You do see the odd parrot mix with an ingredient hamsters shouldn't have, but budgie mix, sunflower seeds, millet, mealworms e.t.c are all generally fine
