Re: Which baby food do you use??
Thank you. That means a lot. I worry constantly 'am I doing the best for her'. We've had to take away quite a few of her toys and not bring her out anymore for play time. I felt really bad for doing that but I know it's for her own safety. And I don't think right now she would fare well coming out considering she can't walk very far.
Thank you though for the kind words and advice

Re: Which baby food do you use??
Sorry to barge in on this post a bit late but my syrian , Willow has been on antibiotics for an abcess the last couple of weeks and has taken them without a fuss in plain porridge with a bit of honey, I just put a few oats, like a teaspoon, in a mug and microwave them with water, it's very quick and very cheap and she seems to love it, she gets up in the morning especially to eat it! Might be worth a try as well as everyone else's helpful suggestions. Hope your hammie goes on ok...

Re: Which baby food do you use??
One of mine ate Science Selective upon the recommendation of his vet due to a dental problem as it could be mashed up like a porridge but would still provide him with a diet that was tailored for hamsters however I fed him a bit of baby food every so often for a bit of variety and he always enjoyed that. His favourites were anything with a chicken base so the Sunday lunch one was popular as was a chicken, rice and broccoli one.

Re: Which baby food do you use??
The kind of baby food I use are corrots and spinach and my hamster loves them. I would advise giving her fruit baby food.

Just out of curiosity, you said you mashed up the Science selective food...how did you get it to go mushy? That's the food I was also suggested & bought but Phoebe is not liking it so much in solid form!

Re: Which baby food do you use??
ThereGoesLucy I soak mine in boiling hot water and leave them a couple of hours and then they go mushy and will mix in with anything. You can use cold water but IMO it works quicker with hot water from the kettle. I tried once just mushing it up with a spoon with out the water and it worked but when I mixed it with baby food it all went really dry and Missy didn't touch it.
Hope that helps

Re: Which baby food do you use??
I use warm water to mush up science selective too, it does take a little while to go soft so I usually give it a bit of a bash in the pestle & mortar to break it up which helps.

Re: Which baby food do you use??
Thanks guys! I'll give this a try! Do you then just leave it in their bowls or spoon feed it to them? I might try it in a bowl but spoon feed her a little bit that has her meds in

Re: Which baby food do you use??
If you're giving meds just give a tiny bit, either in a spoon or bowl so you know that's been eaten then you can leave some more in a bowl if she wants it.
If she's not mad on the science selective alone you can try soaking it with some hamster mix, I do that for my older ham who has problems eating & he much prefers that to just science selective which none of mine really like!
