Re: Wagg Hamster Mix!
I've always avoided it because of the awful dog food the same company makes - I figured their hamster food wasn't going to be much good either.
Harry Hamster can be brought for not much more and is good quality.

Re: Wagg Hamster Mix!
I use Wagg hamster food and it is a good base mix as long as it is supplemented with other things to make it complete. I've never had any issues with it!

Re: Wagg Hamster Mix!
The fact they have the same formula for hams, gerbils and mice is a bit weird? The protein content (16%) isn't high enough for me to use it personally and, like barley, I haven't heard good things about the brand in general. A lot of wheat in the ingredients too but if the variety is okay and your hams like it then it's certainly not the worst food I've seen.

Re: Wagg Hamster Mix!
Well I'd have to agree it's not the worst I've seen but certainly not the best either.
It is a bit of a generic rodent mix rather than being specifically tailored to the nutritional needs of hamsters, not the best ingredients, low protein & why they have to put syrup in it is really beyond me!

Re: Wagg Hamster Mix!
He gets a bowl full and digs for the bits he likes and leaves alot behind, but we do give him a grape, a slice of cucumber and a carrot, changing for fresh pieces daily along with that and the occasional drop or popcorn (hamster popcorn) treat aswell.
What food would you recommend thats the best nutrition?
Just another thing that people assume is really good for our little babies when in actual fact its not the absolute best, just assumptions because of the name i suppose.

Re: Wagg Hamster Mix!
Hi WoodFamily. I gave WAGG a try myself when I had my Syrian a few years back but I admit it was a buy me/try me bag just to see if Boris liked it. He did eat some of it, but I agree with the other posters that it isn`t the best. They will live on it I suppose but possibly get bored very quickly!
I have a Russian dwarf hamster but if you have a Syrian or a dwarf, the foods I`m about to list are fine for both.
Burgess Supahamster
Burgess Supahamster `Dwarf` food
Supreme Science Selective (these are heart-shaped biscuits and are a complete food) for all hamsters
I don`t use the Burgess dwarf food at the moment because I bought four bags of a dwarf hamster mix online and he`s still getting through those. The Supreme science selective you can feed solid or these biscuits come in very handy when a hamster ever needs a `soft` food in illness or old age as they can be softened in water. They smell like gravy which helps! I break one up every day and put it in my hamsters dish and it always vanishes!
These should be available in Pets At Home, small independent pet shops or online. x

Re: Wagg Hamster Mix!
Hi again! A lot of Syrian owners use Harry Hamster food. Some use it alone and others mix it so the hamster does not get bored with one mix. Burgess supahamster has a good reputation. I have a bag ready to use with HarryH soon. I use the selective science biscuits too like RH mentioned. Also treats of other suitable nuts are a good supplement along with veggies.
