Millet, good or bad?
I heard that millet can hurt my hammy? Is that true? I feed my hamster millet all the time and he seems fine, but then again I don't speak hamster.

Re: Millet, good or bad?
I have never heard of this... It could be true? I have never given my hamster millet seed on its own (I put some in some homemade treats) but I was gonna mix the spare millet into their muesli mix. Where did you get this info? X

Re: Millet, good or bad?
I'm not sure where you heard that but millet is perfectly safe for hamsters and most will enjoy a piece of millet spray if put in their cages.
Some hamster mixes contain millet such as the Burgess Dwarf Mix and they wouldn't put anything in there that will be harmful to hamsters.
I hope that helps reassure you a bit.

Re: Millet, good or bad?
Thanks. When I read hamster blogs(which I know are unreliable) every other says something about millet being bad for my hammy.

Re: Millet, good or bad?
Yeah I wouldn't trust info that comes from randomly on the Internet or at least I would double check it here (just like you did!) but I just sprinkled some millet into one of my hamster pips Cage because he was awake and he absolutely loved it! X

Re: Millet, good or bad?
The reason, I think, that the blog said this is that when millet is given to pet birds like budgies, they usually fill up on that instead of their food and don't get enough nutrients or something. So, to combat it, it's said to feed the millet sprays as a treat only.
I could be wrong though.
