Re: Dog biscuits
I've never gave my hamsters dog biscuits but I give them dog chews which I find really good for my Syrian, he loves them! I just buy them from Pets At Home for 79p each I believe, they're little crocodile- shaped whimzees

I tried to find them yesterday but couldn't see any! I just bought them milk chews which I break in half. Larry politely took one from my hand today, nibbled at it and popped it in his house and he's currently sleeping with it. He's very weird.

Re: Dog biscuits
My hamster does that with every chew I give him too! I look through the entrance to my hamster's house and see him curled up next to his chew haha.

Haha they must like them enough to be over protective with them!

Re: Dog biscuits
I use milk bone minis and the hams love them. I also give them Teenie Greenies, another dog treat.

I would have never thought to give them dog treats but due to Larry and his chubbyness/constant need to bite something I needed treats that were a little healthier and good for his teeth, thanks to this site both my problems are sold.

Re: Dog biscuits
Ginger has the puppy milk bones quite often - it is one of the few treats she shows any interest in, that, mealworms and broccoli is about all she will take. She is a right fusspot when it comes to food, but she carries her little milk bone off to bed with her - quite funny watching her try to take it in through the door sideways. Must get some video of that one day!

Re: Dog biscuits
I'm trying to so hard to get Larry on to healthy but all he wants is sugary treats! I gave him half the bone today, he picked it up and dropped it. He only likes broccoli cooked but he'll get bored soon.

Re: Dog biscuits
Hi Larrymom. Just stay strong and don't give in. Remember who is in charge of the treats and the door to the cage. Larry can't get sugary treats unless someone gets them for him. It really is important for him to not have those sugary things. Check out the safe/unsafe list for other foods to try.
Safe and Unsafe Food and Plants - Hamster Central WIKI
Most of my hammies have loved getting a pea or a bit of string bean besides the well loved broccoli. But there are so many good things to try. And as long as Larry is getting a good basic diet, most of these are treats.
