Re: Homemade or diy mixes
If your hams are leaving some of the mix & you add in other ingredients it will be really hard to tell what the overall balance is that they're actually eating & whether they're really getting what they need or just eating their favourite bits.
Is there another mix you could try & see if they'll eat more of it?

Re: Homemade or diy mixes
I had a similar issue with the Harry Hamster mix in that Spike was leaving alot of the kibble pieces, not just the alfalfa pellet things which nobody eats. I switched to the Burgess Hamster Mix and he now eats a lot of the pellets, not all of them, but far more than he was with the Harry mix. I'm not endorsing any particular mix over the other but just as one person will love bananas and another won't hamsters have food preferences. So I agree that it might be a good idea to try a different mix and see if he likes it better first before fiddling with a mix by adding stuff in. You might also consider getting some lab blocks (like oxbow etc) as well and add that in instead of random stuff, at least you know it's a nutritionally complete pellet and it might help offset the stuff he's not eating.

Re: Homemade or diy mixes
I am in the us and currently feeding 11 hamsters. They leave a lot of the bigger pieces and most of the smaller. My vet suggested bc I feed so much veggies baby food and baby cereal. I try and keep there diet healthy as possible. I also give them 2-3 teklan 2018 blocks daily usually they will hide one every other day or so and chew on it!

Re: Homemade or diy mixes
Might well be an idea to cut out the baby food which they don't need if they're generally healthy & can eat ok then see if they'll eat the mix, they might sulk for a bit & try living off any hoard they have for a while so give it some time, maybe a week, before you expect to see a real difference.

I will make that change, but I don't think my hams r going to be very happy about it lol. They love stuffing there faces especially my cocoa she is a whopping 243g and I swear would eat anything I gave her.

Re: Homemade or diy mixes
It does sound like a little tough love is needed, they probably won't like it too much for a while but really I think tough love is actually tougher on us than them!
