Default Need taming treat ideas.

I'm in the process of taming little Aria but she loses interest in the treats I'm offering her.

For example, I'll place some oat or sunflowers on my hand. She will take one and either eat it then and there or she will pouch it. Then if I offer her more she'll just walk over it and onto my hand. Or she'll just go around my hand.

So I'm trying to get suggestions on what other treats I can use that aren't high in sugar.

Right now we have:
Yogurt drops
Oats
Sunflower Seeds
Gerber Puffs

I've also tried broccoli but she got bored of that too.

Maybe there's a different way to get her to trust my hand without the use of treats? I mean, since she doesn't seem to care for them much. ha ha.

I have the same problem! I feel like they're always going to get bored if they have too much of it. So really the only solution would probably be to just offer a variety of treats. have you tried nuts? mine love nuts

Well it's good to hear that I'm not the only one. Ha ha. I actually do! I got some shelled walnuts that I can open up for her.

How about little pieces of chicken?
Or maybe use all the treats you've already tried but much smaller - give her variety.

Use a treat like yogurt or anything they need to lick off a spoon. A bit of baby food that is hamster safe, smudge of soft cheeese, etc.....

It prevents them from pouching the treat for later, and if they really like it , just offer the spoon to them and let them have a bit. Then remove the spoon, till the next time for a treat comes up

I used to give them pocket change, so they could buy their own treats when they went shopping, but they don't have pockets and all the coins ended up on the bottom of the cage.....

Thanks! That is a good idea!
I do break her treats up into smaller pieces but she still gets bored. I'll even rotate treats. Last night I gave her a Gerber puff, she took it and tossed it right away. I tried handing it back to her and she just dodged her head around it so she could climb on my hand to get out of her cage. Ha ha ha. Quite the curious one.

Lol! That's so funny!

I tried some baby food and she loved it! How much yogurt and baby food is safe? Maybe some cottage cheese?

Just enough to give them a few treats to polish off the end of the spoon. It also makes them connect training with this strange spoon device as opposed to human hand giving me treats. Enough for , I dunno? three to five tastes of the treat per hammy? Treat as in a nibble of it, not a full small serving each time.

I have to ask... If she's happy to get on your hand anyway and isn't food orientated, then why not tame without treats?
Ours love lots of things, mealworms are a real favourite with the dwarf hams and some syrians

That makes sense, thank you!
