I thought I'd post an update on my little Chia experiment! As you can see from the picture, it's going well! To be honest, this is my first attempt to grow any kind of plant since I was a small kid; my family has always been notoriously bad at any kind of gardening, so I'm actually really thrilled with this

Cypher, I was wondering if I feed these to the hams (or eat them myself, I've heard they're good on sandwiches :3) so I need to remove the root or something? Or is the whole kaboodle edible? (I actually tried to google this info, but it was surprisingly unhelpful so far xD)

Oh wow they look great! Definitely ready to eat, for you & the hams & you can just eat the whole thing, no need to remove anything.
I tried to sprout some flax at the weekend just out of curiosity as much as anything but after a couple of days it just looked a bit of an icky mess lol! I think that's my first sprout failure though, so many to enjoy for us & hams

Thanks cypher! ^_^ in that case, I'm gonna try a few of them with Lucy and Margo tonight and see what happens. next time I'll use more seeds, I wasn't sure it would work so I just used a couple pinches worth this time around.

Hey, I grew chia seeds into sprouts once, but my hams weren't impressed. They turned their noses up at them so I haven't done it since. Maybe I'll get a "Chia Pet", a (rather gimmicky) figurine made out of unglazed clay that has ridges to help the chia seeds take root, and grow some on there and put it in the tank once there are sprouts on it.

That's a shame, have you tried them with any other sprouts? Mine go pretty crazy for all sprouts, chia probably aren't their favourite but they do like them.

I'll try them with Chia sprouts as I've only done the Chia sprouts with some previously owned hamsters (who have since passed). I'll set up the tray later today.

Okay, my chia seeds are set up now (been a hectic week what with my birthday and other things going on). I might have used a touch more seeds than necessary, but I think it'll work just fine.

Hope the hams enjoy them!
I've been sprouting things for years & still use too many seeds all the time, it never looks enough until you suddenly have a forest lol!

My Chia seeds grew into sprouts now, so I gave them to Paisley. She squashed her face into the sprouts as she enjoyed them.
