A Product Review section would be good as long as you put on a disclaimer saying all our own opinions and were sensible with what you allowed to be written. I think it would be a good idea and would certainly contribute.

Have you heard anything back from Hartz yet?

I may add a section like that, but first we need to get these other project ideas out of the way *smile*

I've not heard back from them yet, I'll give it a few weeks more and if nothing by then I will call them.

Yeah, I freaked out about bugs in Cheeky's food on here several months ago. (Btw, haven't been around lately, hi all!) Ugh, I was so surprised to see the bugs in there that I dropped the food bag and had little creepies all over my counter *shudder*.

Good for you for doing something about it! Cheeky's bag was already open, so I didn't really know if the problem was with me or them. Anyway, now I feed her a custom diet -- I have lots of room in the freezer to store all the ingredients for her custom mix.

I'm probably not remembering everything (way too lazy to get up and go look), but here's most of what's in it:

-shelled peanuts

-pinto beans

-mung beans

-pearled barley

-oat flake things

-rice crisipies

-organic hippy cereal

-lima beans

-hazelnuts

-almonds

-unpopped popping corn

-pumpkin seeds

-lentils (she doesn't like these, though, so I'm phasing them out)

-split peas

-sunflower seeds

-wheat flakes

I tend to give her the fattier stuff as treats, or at least put less in the mix. She also gets carrots and raisins. And occasional Strawberry Drops.

I've researched what's good for her to have and what's not, and I carry around a list of all of that kind of stuff in my purse, so I'll know what I can get when I find myself near a Central Market or other place with a good selection. The organic bulk bins are great because I can get stuff that I know is unsalted, nonsugary cereal, and samples of things that I'm not sure she likes. She eats just about everything I give her, except for the lentils and sometimes the peas. But I try to make sure she has a good sampling of different colors as a rule of thumb.

An air tight container would help, but the trick is to really only buy what you need and use it up before you buy another. Most feeds contain small insect eggs that could eventually hatch in the proper condition, no matter what container you have the feed in.

If you could store the food in the freezer this would definitely stop all bugs
