Where can I find whole walnuts in shells? (UK shops)
I saw a video a while ago saying walnuts are a great treat for hams and when given in their shells help wear down teeth and nails, I thought this sounded great so I've been on the lookout and had no joy.
Can anyone recommend any chain shops that would sell whole walnuts? I have tried most supermarkets and even Holland and Barrett, but they only sell walnut halves. Or are there any other hard-shelled nuts that I could use instead (and where could I buy those from)?
Thanks in advance!

Monkey Nuts/Peanuts in the shell work well, don't know about pistachios with shell though.....

I used to get whole walnuts pretty cheap from a local garden centre, the hamsters loved them.
Monkey nuts are great too and I love hearing all the hamsters chew them at once, most food shops should sell plain ones

I got some whole waluts from a Farm shop, but that was near Tenby. Sometimes fruit and veg shops sell them, the ones you see in towns.

Re: Where can I find whole walnuts in shells? (UK shops)
Most shops, or nearly all near me only sell nuts at christmas time. I dont know about any asian food shops but I know one asian food shop sells coconuts where no other shops do because to them, they are 'out of season'. Brazil nuts might be a good nut to get into if they are ok for hams. The shells are very tough.
My hams wont even break into a monkey nut. Not even if I crack the shell myself a bit so they can smell the nuts.
Do not give Almond nuts to hamsters though. Almonds (Contains Cyanic Acid)

Re: Where can I find whole walnuts in shells? (UK shops)
I'm sure I saw some walnuts in a pet shop only very recently too. A massive bag of them though - would last most hamsters their entire life (literally!). Have you tried Pets at Home? Or other pet shops as they may sell them too. I can't for the life of me think where I was when I saw this massive bag. Only reason I didn't buy it was because I only wanted one or two (it wasn't particularly cheap). I'm sure it was Pets at Home. That's the only pet store I've been in of late.
Skittle (5 month old male Syrian) absolutely LOVES his monkey nuts though. Destroys the shell in mere seconds and then usually pouches the nut for a midnight feast ... bless him

I only seem to see them in shops at Christmas but you can usually find them online, ratrations sell them Walnuts - Diamond - £2.27 : ratRations.com

Re: Where can I find whole walnuts in shells? (UK shops)
My local farm shops all sell nuts in shells all year, I think a farm shop is your best bet
Willow loves pistachios, she cracks and eats these, monkey nuts she loves to crack and get the peanuts out but once out she never eats them she just leaves them in her larder untouched.
