Porridge/Oatmeal
Hey guys the more I observe Morisse's eating habits, I realize he is a binge eater! Adores his treats ignores the healthy stuff. SO! being the conscious fluff parent I am, I'm trying to think of a way to get him to eat some healthy stuff.
After a bit of research I've found that hams can eat Porridge or Oatmeal. My idea is that basically I cook up a bit of porridge and then mix bits of carrot or apple (something healthy basically) then freeze it. Probably use a baking tray or something to make little circles with it or something.
Firstly does this sound like something that would work. Is it okay to feed him porridge? Is it also okay to mix it with stuff and then freeze it, let me know!
If you have any other food ideas that I could use that would be great. It needs to be something that I feed him frequently. Thanks in advance from both me and Morisse (although he may not know it yet!)
EDIT: I would cook the Porridge with water not milk!

Re: Porridge/Oatmeal
I give my robos plain porridge oats as an occasional treat: they love it. Your idea sounds safe although i have never done that myself. Don't over feed him with the porridge.
You could try making this: Egg Custard Recipe - Easy recipes
But add very little if any honey.

Re: Porridge/Oatmeal
Thanks Dave, I will try making the Porridge tonight and post up the results and the Egg custard looks like a brilliant idea as well. At this rate the hamster will be eating better than me!

Re: Porridge/Oatmeal
Hahaha awesome! I guess the foods we make for the hams doesnt have to be exclusively for them. Maybe I can improve my eating habits with his ha ha

Re: Porridge/Oatmeal
Hello Naraivi. Hammies will eat oatmeal cooked or dry. My hammies seem to prefer it dry. I only use it as a treat now and then. I will use it for baby hams who are newly weaned and for elderly or sick hammies mixed with crushed hamster food. Use it as a treat. I honestly don't know about freezing oatmeal.

Re: Porridge/Oatmeal
Okay fab, I didn't get round to it last night because my local shop was out of porridge but I will let you all know the results once the concoction has been made!
