Frozen foods?
Can a hamster have frozen foods, like frozen fruits? I several bags of frozen fruit like strawberries and blueberries that get mushy when it thaws. Right now she's just getting freeze dried strawberries for fruit.
Oh and broccoli gives Penny gas that stinks up the whole room. lol Is it still safe for her to eat?
Thanks!

Re: Frozen foods?
I thaw out peas and sweetcorn for Ligeia and my gerbils. I also keep blueberries in the freezer too and they still enjoy those even though they are a bit squishy.

Re: Frozen foods?
Does that mean they wouldn't enjoy/couldn't have them frozen? I'll thaw some out though. Ohh I just saw in my list they can have blackberries and blueberries. I thought that would be a no cause of the seeds.

Re: Frozen foods?
I summer I've offered my rodents frozen peas and sweetcorn as I thought it would help keep them cool but they wouldn't eat them until they have thawed out

Re: Frozen foods?
Strawberries don`t freeze well and contain fructose (sugars), but if you feed a few pieces of corn cob nibblets or garden peas, just take these from the freezer, place them in COLD water for an hour and they are ready to eat. I wouldn`t advise feeding them while they are still frozen. Frozen veg is better than fresh as fresh (unless it`s straight from the ground/farm) can often be stored or packed longer.

Re: Frozen foods?
I put a frozen blueberry, raspberry and strawberry in a dish and thawed in fridge. She didn't like then mushy. I could do corn and peas though.

Re: Frozen foods?
What about mixing them with a bit of plain porridge or baby food? Or even a little plain yoghurt. I'd make sure the fruit was thawed first but after that it would be fine

Re: Frozen foods?
What's porridge? lol Oatmeal? I don't have baby food but I can try it sometime. She'll eat fresh stuff. I just had several bags of frozen fruits for myself I thought it would be nice if she'd eat.

Re: Frozen foods?
I use frozen fruit in the summer when it's really hot. My hams do like it frozen. I also use dried fruit or freeze dried fruit for my hams. Dried fruit stays good in the fridge for the longest time and my guys love it. I also bought the freeze dried kind too and the hams think it's just great. See below for the kind I got them. I use this for myself too. In the winter months it's not always easy for me to get out, so this way I always have fruit in the house.

Re: Frozen foods?
Those look good! I bought a mix bag of dried cranberries/blueberries/cherries just to get them home and see the ingredients were full of additives and added sugar. :/
