Re: Harry Hamster VS Hazel Hamster

Re: Harry Hamster VS Hazel Hamster
There is actually a difference between Harry and Hazel hamster, which I didn't realise for a long time! (Note: I've got this information from the bag of Harry in front of me, and the page for Hazel Hamster on the Petsmart website.)
Firstly, ingredients. Harry has: "Wheat, alfalfa, soybean meal, maize, flaked maize, flaked peas, sunflower seeds, soya flakes, peanuts, soya oil, pumpkin seeds, extruded locust beans, calcium carbonate, salt. May contain genetically modified soya." (Plus all the added vitamins.)
Hazel has: "Flaked whole wheat, ground whole wheat, pelleted soybean meal, dehydrated alfalfa pellets, whole corn, flaked peas, flaked whole corn, sunflower seeds, flaked soybeans, peanut kernels, kibbled locust beans, soybean oil (preserved with BHT), peanuts in shell, pumpkin seeds, wheat middlings, salt, calcium carbonate, sodium sulfate, vitamins [...] added fd&c colors"
Analytical constituents: Harry is 19% crude protein, 8% crude fibres, 6% crude oils and fats, and 5% crude ash. Hazel is crude Protein (min) 18%, crude fat (min) 5%, crude Fiber (max) 9% and ash (max) 6%.
Nutritional additives: Harry contains 15000 IU/kg vitamin A, 1500 IU/kg vitamin D3, 152 mg/kg ferrous sulphate monohydrate, 1.5 mg/kg calcium iodate anhydrous, 20mg/kg copper sulphate pentahydrate, 38 mg/kg magnesium oxide, 62 mg/kg zinc oxide and 0.2 mg/kg sodium selenite.
Hazel contains copper (min) 17 mg/kg, vitamin A (min) 14,000 IU/kg, vitamin D3 (min) 2000 IU/kg and vitamin E (min) 60 mg/kg.
Now, I don't know how accurate exactly the Petsmart info on Hazel Hamster is, but the Harry Hamster info has all come from my latest bag of food, so should be up to date. I think the differences are mainly due to regulation differences between the UK and the US, in terms of what additives are allowed, and also what they have to declare on the packaging.
