Re: Food for hamster with lost teeth
Hi.
Hope your Dobby is ok
Baby food is a good one, grandpas sunday lunch, porridge, egg custard. There are lots just try to make sure there are no onions or garlic.
Also i would try to soak his food, maybe an all in one nugget type would be better till soft and see if that works.

Re: Food for hamster with lost teeth
Ive never owned a toothless hamster before, but I guess baby food Or porridge would be good to try, My hammie loves it now he's a bit elderly. You could also crunch up some of his normal food and mix some water in to make a paste.

Re: Food for hamster with lost teeth
I've had gerbils with missing teeth and I gave them soaked food and crushed food as well. I used to crush peanuts, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds (without the shells) for them, and chopped raisins into little pieces, as well as crushing some of their regular food too. I also bought them some oxbow essentials healthy handfuls hamster and gerbil food. It soaks really nicely - doesn't go slimy or sticky - and the gerbils really liked it. None of them would eat baby food though. They also enjoyed chopped up fresh food too.

Re: Food for hamster with lost teeth
I have been mashing up carrots and peas for my George as he had an accident last weekend wth his teeth . he isnt eating much either like your dobby.
George has been gettin weetabix and ready break. im off to buy some more shortly.
You can buy a vitamin solution from your local pet store that you can soak in food or put in water to ensure they still get vitamins they need.
Hope dobby is ok soon.

Re: Food for hamster with lost teeth
Remember hamsters still have the back teeth - little molars so the can still chew up their food. They also still need fibre to keep the bowel healthy.
If it best to grind a normal mix up small in a food processor or mortar and pestle. They can then hoover up the small bits and chew at the back.
Some baby food is fine and also porridge and weetabix but they shouldn't fill up on those if possible. Soaking the normal mix in boiling water then allowing to cool is a good way for them to manage to eat that though it does need changed every day and don't let them store it as it goes mouldy so soak only a little. Veg chopped small is usually fine too.
I do hope Dobby manages to eat and recovers soon.
What happened to his teeth?

You can soften Dobby's food, soak it in a bit of water.
Also a mix of porridge will work, and mashed veggies.

Re: Food for hamster with lost teeth
I reccomend soaking food in water for around 5-6 minutes and them using a spoon to mash it up for your hammie. My hamster Pip is 4 now and struggling to eat so that's what I do and she loves it but I only use the nugget type food (the brown and green bits in Harry Hamster) and mash up carrots and cut romain lettuce smaller for Pip
