Yeah thats true, I have no idea how to tell if a ham is diabetic...

I will start him on mealworms and maybe dried banana (as Venetia and Nutmeg loved them)

Taking notes of weeing and drinking and whatnot. You can get diabetic tester strips in most chemists, and you just get some pee on it to get a result.
It's really mostly the Russians dwarfs (primarily Campbells and hybrids) and the Chinese hamsters that are prone.

The gang at home love both of them. My little robo especially LOVES mealies. And don't forget waxworms! They're scrumptious, apparently.

My hammies all love cooked pasta and plain chicken. They have so many other treats...fruit and vegetables, Swiss Muesli, mealworms, crickets, and grasshoppers and yogurt, that they don't really need any others. Although I do freeze strawberries and the yogurt for them in the summertime.
