I tend to give my dwarfs bits of carrot, cucumber, tomato, blueberries, strawberries, grapes, sweetcorn, peas, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potato (cooked), apple, banana (rarely) and probably other bits I have forgotten.
They get at most 2 or 3 little finger nail sized pieces each, at most everyday, but usually alternate days (depends when we have veg and what we have). We started off with less, just to be safe, and built it up but we like to make sure they are eating their dried food too! Two don't always eat it, the other one comes running out for it when she knows it's 'dinner time' and always has a clean bowl!

I hate to say this buy hybrids shouldn`t be eating fruit. It contains fructose, which is a natural sugar and since hybrids are prone to develop diabetes, I would try to avoid fruits, or at least, the highest sugar ones like banana, strawberry or grape. A little piece of carrot should be better as well as raw veggies like garden peas and sprouted mung bean. A little piece of apple (yes, apple does contain sugar) has recently been proven to lower diabetes in humans, so a little piece a few times a week is fine.

I would begin by offering half a fingernail size of anything and go from there, but start with the safe stuff like simple carrot, apple and garden pea. These are all added fibre in their most natural form, so you don`t want to trigger any tummy upsets. Feeding very little to begin with and monitor things to see if the hamster copes. They love fresh foods so if you stick to small amounts every few days peter and go from there, it`s beneficial.

Seconding everything by RH there. ^^

I tend to avoid sugary fruits all together with my dwarfs. With fresh foods I usually give them a little piece of leafy greens such as spinach, cabbage (green and red), dandelion, the occasional strawberry leaf (which is good for upset tummies), clover, basil, mint and parsley.

I also give them a little piece of cucumber, carrot, red pepper, mangetout or sugarsnaps, or raw garden peas.

Fortunately, Toddy will only eat spinach and sometimes some cabbage, and he won't take any treats aside from a waxworm, so I don't really have to worry too much about his sugar intake! :L

That's good to know. I will cut out the sweeter fruits, although they do only get that rarely, it's more veg, tomatoes and cucumber as that is what I feed my snails.
