How much bird seed mixed in with HH?
Hi guys, I've just gone and got dusty some trill bird seed (500g box) and I'm wondering how much to mix in with her Harry Hamster- should I put the whole box of food in or leave some out?

Re: How much bird seed mixed in with HH?
What does your Harry Hamster food weigh? I would probably do 500g HH to 500G millet. Mix it all together. Although if your hamster is a Syrian, I would just add a small level teaspoonful to his dish and see if he eats it first as Syrians are not as keen on small seeds like dwarfs are. So it would be a shame to mix it all in just to find he wasn`t keen on it! So try a small amount first and see how it goes?

Well its a 700g bag but I've used a little bit of it so its around 500-600g. She's a hybrid and loves millet and small seeds so I got this for her after a recommendation. I tried her with some earlier today and she nommed it up instantly so I'll probably just go ahead and mix it in.

Re: How much bird seed mixed in with HH?
Yes, dwarf hamsters do love millet seed. Although the Burgess Dwarf food has Canary seed mix already added in large quantities and the food is made for dwarf hamsters, so it might be worth your while buying a bag of this food rather than just Trill on it`s own? That way you could have two hamster mixes together. Just an idea..

Re: How much bird seed mixed in with HH?
You should check what the percentages are on the seed packet.
They're often high in fat so there's no way you'd want to be making a 50:50 mix with your HH. A quarter is probably more appropriate to keep the fat down and not drag the protein down too

Re: How much bird seed mixed in with HH?
Your probably right Olive, that was a bit of a guess on my part which is why I suggested getting the Burgess Dwarf instead as it`s formulated for hamsters as a whole mix rather than just millet sold for birds. If you can`t buy it locally, you can either ask a pet shop to order it in for you, or go to the Burgess Website and purchase it online from there or from many other sites that stock it. x
