Question Mealworms?

I don't know if this is the right section to post this in, so if it isn't, my apologies.

Can you keep mealworms in the hamster's cage? I saw that some people do that and don't have a problem with it, but one time I saw that the mealworms started to attract ants. I always make sure the worms get consumed and there aren't any left overs because I'm scared it will attract ants. However, some people simply leave the worms in the hamster's bedding and it's fine.

Thanks!

I used dried mealworms. But only 3/4 at a time and Harry munches them up so quick they're not around long enough to attract anything!

Do you mean live mealworms?

Oh right! If you just sprinkle a few in I shouldn't think it will be a problem.

I thought you meant live too.

Dried should be fine. Although if the hamster has pouched them they are likely to get a bit sticky and will go bad, so you should remove them during a spot clean. But left in the cage or burrowed under the substrate so they can sniff them out and dig them up is some good enrichment, and keeps them occupied for a little bit because it encourages their foraging instincts.
