Question almost out of hamster food but I have ....

Hi. I am almost out of hamster food in 2 days or so but my aunt has a lot of bird seed. PRIORITY TOTAL PET CARE, TRAIL MIX WILD BIRD FOOD. Would that be alright if I just pick out the stuff I don't recognize? Its mostly
sunflower seeds
peanuts
millet
and something else that I am not sure what it is..I can take a picture of it tomorrows. I am unable to go to the store until Wednesday as there is no buss system. And I am super far out in the boonie land to walk anywhere

Hi. Wild bird mix should be okay if it contains various millets and cracked corn. Dwarf hamsters do like smaller seeds and canary seed is added to one of the Burgess mixes over here, so as long as the mix is plain and doesn`t contain anything a hamster can`t have, it should be okay for a few days. Syrians don`t particularly like millet and smaller seeds.

But when you do manage to get to the pet store, buy two bags of the food you normally use if you feel you might run out again either due to transport issues or the winter weather drawing in.

Oh this is useful, I was at the pet store buying treats the other day and accidentally picked up a canary treat which is all smaller seeds, I wasn't sure he could have it so left it on the side - sounds like he can have it but probably just won't be that keen? Good to know.

According to their site: "Priority Trail Mix Wild Bird Food contains oil and striped sunflower seeds, millet, cracked corn, peanut pieces and safflower seeds."

I'm pretty sure those are all safe, though I've never heard of anyone giving safflower seeds to hamsters.

Sounds like it should be fine for short term basis. Bare in mind though that bird mixes are usually really high in fat, so I wouldn't feed too many sunflower or peanuts, because there's likely to be loads in there.
You could even bulk it out with some bits from the kitchen like porridge oats, muesli or popped rice or something like that. As long as it's relatively plain and not too sharp as to damage the pouches.
