Default Whole Walnuts.

I've seen that quite a few people buy their hammies some whole walnuts where they have to chew the shell to get to the goodness inside.
I really want to do this (even if it's just an excuse for me to have a treat too! hehe) but the only problem is is that I can't find anywhere that sells them! (except Amazon for 1kg)

Where in the UK can I buy them whole?
Or do i have to wait until Christmas/use Amazon?

Have you tried health shops similar to holland & barrats, they may stock them?

They only seem to stock them as bits not as whole things.

You could try the local greengrocers mine have them all year in shells. Also there might be a walnut tree where you live.

The one near me is full of green balls which fall off the tree & split them open there's a walnut in a shell inside.

They are not quiet read to fall but any time soon

xxx

Yeah I can imagine they are pricey in waitrose.
Just bought a pack of deshelled ones from asda. He went to store it with the rest of his food but couldn't resist eating the rest of it! Haha.

On the subject of storing food no matter how much I put in his bowl he will just automatically store it. Should I be worried about that? He's stored so much that he has two stores now :/

Yeah my hamster did that every single day, I just tried to monitor how much I put in his tray. I used to fill it look around and then it had all gone within a few minutes... I just filled tray once a day and gave him a couple bits of fresh stuff throughout the day.

He was fine.... so I wouldn't worry. Glad you got the walnuts they were expensive something like £4 :O lol..

I've bought my whole walnuts from this online nut store called Bulk Nuts • Bulk Candy, Chocolate & Kosher Gift Baskets • Oh! Nuts. It serves the US primarily, so you might need to find an online store that sells to the UK and Europe and such. When whole nuts are easy to find in grocery stores, which is around Christmas time, I go to one and buy a bag as its cheapest.

Because walnuts have thick shells and are too big to allow a Syrian to get their teeth around the outside at an ideal angle to gnaw successfully, I usually help by cracking the nut open a little and letting them "forage" with the nut in the remaining shell as a bit of enrichment.
