Question Baby foooood.

I have a few questions about feeding my hamster baby food (when I eventually get her!)

1. What age can you feed a hamster baby food? Is it any age or when they're young/old?

2. What flavours would be suitable? I know to avoid anything with onion/garlic in.

3. How often can it be fed to the hamster?

4. Do I need to watch out for how much sugar content there is etc?

5. I know that I can freeze the food to save wasting it but I have read that when it warms back up to room temperature it goes all watery? Can it still be fed to my hamster like this? :s

Thank you for your help! xo

Baby food isn't a staple in my hammies diets. It's good for very young ones and for the elderly ones. Sick hammies appreciate it too. But a hamster who is healthy and active and eats a balanced diet doesn't need it. It can be an occasional treat if you like, especially if it's really hot out and you want to make a cooling frozen treat.

Yeah It just seems like a really nice treat to give them on the odd occasion. I just don't want to do it too often as I'd waste most of it xo

I haven't fed mine with baby food for a long time, mainly because our babies have grown up into men and women and their babies have grown into little monsters ... er ... I mean ... dearly loved grandchildren. So we don't buy baby food any more. If you already have a baby and buying baby food anyway you can give a teaspoonful to your hamster. But buying baby food specially for your hamster will be expensive and wasteful because it's an occasional treat and not a staple.

I give my Syrian hamster "Hipps organic porridge" baby food once a week. It comes in jar and once opened I put it in ice tray freeze it and once a week defrost it in room temperature and give it to her. Dosage I feed her is 1 teaspoon. Jar of baby food cost about£0.80 and I get 10 spoons out of 1 jar.

I give baby food to my old man Theo. I haven't tried him on the more dessert-type foods because I'm using it as a partial replacement for his regular hammy food. I give him the meat and veg dinner, pureed and strained for 0-6 months old babies because they typically don't contain onion and garlic. His fave is beef

My Syrian and Winter White love baby food! Favourites are strawberry shortcake, rice pudding, apple and pear pudding and Syrian likes grandpas sunday lunch.

Robo doesn't touch any of it x
