Default What Nuts Can Hamsters Have?

I have been giving my hamster raw Monkey nuts in shells as a treat, I want to give her different nuts in shells but the only ones I can find have been roasted. Are they ok to be roasted or do they have to be raw?

If you buy them packaged/premade as opposed to raw, there's a good chance that the nuts will contain salt and other preservatives, which aren't exactly good for hams (especially salt). That being said, hams tend to love nuts and seeds so they won't say no to the packaged goodness - just be careful. Those varieties are like junk food to them!

As long as they are plain and have no added salt, sugars or additives. If you do down the cooking isle in your supermarket you can normally fine plain nuts sold for cooking purposes, as apposed to those in the snacks isle. You can feed brasil nuts, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashews, almonds.
You'll find that some people rave about almonds and how toxic they are, but this is said in poor research. As long as they are not in their shells, they are fine. There is a variety of almond that is bad, but they are bitter almonds. Those sold for human consumption, such as for cooking, will be sweet almonds.

Mine absolutely love brazil nuts and the occasional cashew nut.. i get them from ratrations though so they're plain and more suited to the animal.

Mine loves pistachios (no salt in shell or out)...I take one out of the bag and she comes begging with her little nose sniffing the air.
