Trill budgie food
Just wanted to make sure Trill budgie food is ok for hammies? My hybrid loves small seeds.

Re: Trill budgie food
Trill is fine for hammies. Dwarfs do indeed love small seeds; my little Todd gets a budgie tonic mix with his food. When picking a budgie food make sure it does not have any sugar or honey in the composition, as a lot of budgie mixes do. I don't think Trill does so you should be fine.
I think it does have quite a nice vitamin level, but to make sure he does not get excessive amounts of certain nutrients and upsetting his dietary balance, I would limit it to a little sprinkle with his base mix.

Re: Trill budgie food
Trill is fine for hammies, but as a budgie owner i won't feed it to my birds because it repeatedly failed to sprout, (meaning it was poor quality and/or the majority of seeds were dead) and so i feed my birds on Beaphar Premium budgie mix, so while Trill shouldn't be relied on for the vitamins, it is fine for a treat!

Re: Trill budgie food
Trill has seed shaped extrusions which contain the vitamins and minerals. Try your hamsters with those first. Personally, i would go more for a tonic mix rather than a regular mix such as Trill.

Re: Trill budgie food
I usually just buy Canary mix as it has hemp seed and linseed in the mix as well rather than just millet. My pet shop supplier does pre-weighted bags of 1kg for £1.10p.
Can anyone tell me what `tonic` mix actually is? I bought a bag of the tonic budgie mix myself and although my robo enjoyed it, I wondered if it had something added to it? Is it a tonic mix for birds that need conditioning or for birds that have been ill? Just curious really as I would like to be sure it is actually suitable for hamsters and not just for birds. If that was the case, I would just stick to the canary seed mixture.

Re: Trill budgie food
Did a quick search on `Budgie Tonic Seed` and apparently, it contains IODINE which budgies need. Not sure hamsters do though? Not sure if Trill contains iodine but thought it worth mentioning here since different millet seed mixes seem to vary. I like the plain Canary seed mix for hamsters personally.

Re: Trill budgie food
Thanks for mentioning that RH, it appears to have iodine in it so niw I'm not so sure about feeding. Canary seed might be a better option. Would the pets at home brand be ok do you know? I'm beginning to have a stack of tubs for food etc just for the hams lol.
