Default Which is right?

I'vealways been told that your meant to remove the yellow and green corn and pea flakes from hamster food for CRD's hybrids and Chinese. But on the other hand, I've also read and heard that it makes no difference whatsoever and all it actually achieves is upsetting the balance of the food. So which one is right?

No-one can know for sure so its all a matter of opinion. I just avoid the issue and use science selective for those I'm concerned about - then I'm sorted either way.

It'll also depend on the food. Different foods have different amounts of each ingredient and that'll affect it too

It's one of those situations where you have to make your own mind up about it

Yes taking anything out of a mix leaves the mix balance out, so some people leave everything in to keep the balance correct

Does feeding diabetes prone hams sweet things like corn & flaked peas cause them to become diabetic or become diabetic quicker than not feeding peas & corn

No one has the answer to that one as there has never been a study to test this out, even if there was no two hams are the same so it's impossible to know. Some people go down the road of thinking you would not feed anything sweet to a diabetic person so take it out & add some things in to try & replace what is taken out though you won't know if the mix is balanced or not. And some people think if a ham is going to be diabetic they will be, feeding them sweet things or not

So its what you feel is the best thing to do really

Yes it's a tricky one. I don't want to go taking anything out personally, because my mathematical knowledge isn't good enough to do the correct %'s and volumes, and my diet and nutrition knowedge isnt much better, so if I start faffing around with it , I will almost certainly get it wrong.

At the moment I feed all of them a mix made up of burgess dwarf, Harry hamster, and P@h's new healthy balance stuff, and if there's too much corn in say the chinese's dish, I just take some out. I'm thinking of changing it a bit though, as by next month I won't be able to get to a p@h as often as I have been doing, so I want something I can order from online. I'm thinking HH, burgess dwarf and syrian and then a new third mix. What are the Zooplus hamster foods like? I've noticed there's a few on there. Or burgess lifelong hamster? Or even a mix made up of all four?

I've been having a look at the Zooplus dwarf mix funny enough Wobbles

I like it because it has a great mix of seeds, some not seen in other commercial mixes here is the ingredient list:

Extruded corn flour, yellow millet, red millet, corn, oats, wheat, linseed, rice 4.8%, peanuts, wheat flakes, mung beans, popped wheat, canary seed, dari seed, shrimps 2%, chicken, beef, cheese, fish

So the heart shaped biscuits are made of the corn flour & it's where the vitamins & minerals are added.

I am not so keen on the Syrian mix as there looks to be lots of wheat here are the ingredients list:

Extruded corn flour, wheat, corn, oats, red millet, yellow millet, popped wheat, dari seed, carrots, canary seed 3%, buckwheat, sorghum, mung beans, chicken, beef, shrimps 1%, cheese, fish

The ingredients are less varied.

I also like the bird germinating mix which you can feed as it is without soaking it, it has a good mix of seeds

Millet & Seeds and Other Bird Food Supplements at zooplus: JR Birds Germinating Seed Feed for Budgies

Some people feed Trill as treat seeds you could feed this mix like that, just as a natural treat. Would also be good for your new HM

So yes you can feed a mix of all or any of the ones you have said Wobbles

Oh don't forget Petsupermarket has free P&P for the HH & Burgess
