Default What food do you give your hammies?

After looking at previous posts most of you have thrown away the P@H food :S. This is what we use for Oscar, Alfie and Lola. Is there better food we can give them?

I find Harry Hamster to be the best by far.....its also very good for diabetic hams if you removed the peas and corn.

I travel for miles to get my hands on Harry Hamster!

I use an ordinary hamster mix as a base and mix my own bits in, my hams don't like HH for some reason!

Just to be original - I use Harry Hamster too!!

I mix in this roots and fruit thing (it's by the same people as the Yippee treats and is dried carrot, apple and raisins I think) to make her HH a bit more interesting. I put extra monkety nuts in too.

Good point. Mine have Harry Hamster as a main course but every day they also get an extra course such as oats, rice pudding (low fat), porridge, organic veggies, monkey nuts, peanuts, pistachio nuts, chicken, millet, etc etc.

I'm a Harry fan too - it's on special offer at our local Wilko's - 1.09. I add a little wheatgerm and linseeds to ours plus occasional millet.

Extras-wise, mine get fresh veggies 5 days a week, they also get porridge and baby food twice a week plus the odd teaspoon of cooked rice or pasta and chicken once or twice a week. Rice pudding is an absolute and much savoured treat. All the above are good for very young or very old hamsters - I tend to be a bit more sparing with my fully grown adults. Definitely build up the fresh veggies gradually to avoid tummy upsets.

i buy a 15kg bag of Harry Hamster (which is £18 inc. delivery) then i put some into a tupperware box and each time i do that i add lentils and barley, about a handful of each. It's kinda expensive though for the Tesco organic ones
