Feeding schedules
Just wondering how different people schedule their hamsters meals? I personally just top up the food bowl whenever it gets empty, and give some cherios everyday as treats, and fruits and veggies a few times a week, but I have seen people do much more regular feeding schedules with alot of variety? I have only had my newest ham Maria for about 10 days and if i am going to start changing around her schedules, its probably best to start early.

Re: Feeding schedules
I give my hams their regular mix in the morning at around 10, only give them one spoon each. If I gave more, they wouldn't eat all of it lol. They get occasional treat, most treats we have here contain sugar, so I wouldn't want to give them too often.

Re: Feeding schedules
My syrians each have bowls in their cages containing a mix, usually Hazel Hamster. But they primarily eat critter cubes/lab blocks which I scatter each evening. The mix stays for a few days because they like rummaging around in it to find certain things.
My dwarfie is pretty much the opposite - eats primarily Hazel Hamster with the occasional critter cube to gnaw on. I feed her around noon time every day and she comes out the moment she hears the food hit the bowl.

Re: Feeding schedules
My hamsters get a fresh bowl of food every 2-3 days as I have found this has reduced selective feeding and keeps the hams in good conditions. Babies/mums/those in need of feeding up get extras every few days in addition, e.g. Baby food, porridge, chicken. Everyone gets extras after a show (once to twice a month). At clean out they get treats scattered in the cage to forage, usually dog biscuits, dried herbs and something else depending on what I have at the time. If someone's on medications then they get baby food daily with their meds.
My Syrian Basil gets choc drops or toast a few times a week when he's looking sorrowfully at me. My other Syrian has had these cut out as she's getting too chunky.
I like to keep feeling schedules simple

Re: Feeding schedules
We check if they need feeding every night before bed, but not everyone does get fed every night.

Re: Feeding schedules
I scatter feed daily around 9:30 pm when the hams first start to wake up. Usually they will poke their heads out when they hear the seeds hit the shavings and me calling them. Every few days I check their stores, and if there's still a lot then I will skip that day.

Re: Feeding schedules
Hi, I feed my boys between 6 and 7pm. Like Vectis, I don't feed them every night because they just eat the yummy bits and leave the rest. A couple of times a week they get a few meal worms in their food pots and every 3 or 4 weeks I put in one of those nutty bar things in the cages (Rango, my Chinese, has one that contains carrot and herbs as I've heard they are more prone to diabetes so a honey fruit stick isn't ideal!!). It usually takes them over a week to get through that. They both have a millet spray and Igor (my robo) has a corn on the cob that he loves to gnaw on. I have just started giving them baby banana porridge once a week. It's had mixed results so far. Igor ignored his the first week, whilst Rango licked his bowl clean and then last week, Igor gave it a try and Rango didn't seem bothered!!! I don't have a schedule but just check what's available to them each night and decide then if I need to add anything.

Re: Feeding schedules
I change the feed for my two once a day and give them just enough that there will hardly be any left over the next morning. They do like to hide their food sometimes and if it's only the odd little bit I'll leave it for them but if it's almost their whole dish then I will have to clean it out and put a bit of fresh food where the old was stored. As for treats they get the odd piece of fresh fruit or veg as I'm still trying to introduce the new food slowly to their diets.
