Default What to feed my hammies?

I have 3 Syrians that are very happy with their pets at home hamster muesli. I have recently got 2 seperately housed dwarves, they have been eating the muesli, mostly the seeds but is there a better mix specifically for dwarves that you can recommend? Also my female Syrian seems to eat a lot slower than the males is that normal? Xx

I would recommend this one Dwarf Hamster - Basic - £1.38 : ratRations.com or this one Dwarf Hamster - No Freshwater Shrimps - £1.20 : ratRations.com

Both are really good for Dwarfs because there is no added high sugar ingredients like flaked peas or Corn.

Dwarfs can be diabetes prone

if you gradually mix a new food in to there old mix over a couple of eeks and gradually reduce the old mix they will be fine!!

unless your my ham peaches who was on the p@h muesli then refused to eat it once she was given silvers mix!

she was absolutely fine though.

i placed an order yesterday for the syrian and dwarf basic mixes. xxxx

While it theoretically can upset tummies, many people on the forum have found that their hams resist a gradual change to Silver's mix by ignoring their old mix completely as soon as they get Silver's To be fair I don't blame them, they smell far superior to other mixes to me As far as I know, no one has yet reported an upset tummy on Silver's mixes either.

The P@H hamster muesli isn't very good for any hamster at all really, you'd be best off with Silver's mix, or failing that, Harry Hamster

I never bother weaning hamsters off one mix onto another I just change it because dry mixes are much the same when it comes to ingredients, as grains and seeds are not likely to cause any upset. I`ve never had any problems doing this and I`ve switched foods on a couple of occassions. Especially when it involves a hamster species that may be diabetic prone. I just switch the diets.

For hybrids, campbells russian dwarf hamsters and chinese hamsters, I just use what I use now for my syrian and robo. Burgess Supahamster Harvest mix (normal mix not the dwarf version) and remove the corn and flaked maize when feeding a diabetic prone species and replace these with hemp seed, buckwheat, porridge oats (dry) loose millet varieties, millet spray and dry mealworms for your hybrids. Even just adding one of these to replace the corn would be fine as corn is just a starchy carbohydrate anyway. My hamsters never eat it. The prefer the fresh corn on the cob!

Any good pet shop or supermarket sell these.
