Re: Dwarf dietary questions - diabetes and tumors
September, your local pet store seem to know more or less what they're on about!

I was working off a couple different resources that were not the one you just posted. I had read before that hard boiled eggs can be a good source of protein, but your link specifies for the first time I've seen that it should be egg whites with a small amount of yolk. That is good to know now otherwise I would have given them an equal balance of both.

To be honest I feed the whole egg, I give the egg scrambled. A good sorce of protein

That's the funny thing about their "advice"... I definitely spent more money today with my diabetic shopping list than I would have just buying a basic hamster mix. So when you think about it, they were trying to talk me out of giving them extra cash. *giggles*

Re: Dwarf dietary questions - diabetes and tumors
Silver, thank you as well for the comprehensive list! Are all nuts okay? I saw ground up walnuts in the bulk section and was wondering. I also stuck with canary feed for birdseed, but saw a couple other varieties that looked appealing. Are all bulk birdseed mixes generally okay as long as they don't have corn/peas?

Oh, and by the way, Silver... When I was seeing people post about Silver's Mix I thought it was a brand! I feel silly.

Re: Dwarf dietary questions - diabetes and tumors
All nuts except Almonds. Walnuts are very good.
Most bird food mix's are good. Watch out for fat added you don't want that. The best % For Protein/Fat & Fibre is:
Protein 19%
Fat 6%
Fibre 8%
Harry Hamster/Hazel Hamster is the nearest. But it has corn & flaked peas so you could take those out & add some bird mix.
Or if you can find another hammy food or bird mix near those % then that would be the best

Re: Dwarf dietary questions - diabetes and tumors
I don't worry at all... as a matter of fact, it gives me an even higher opinion of the mix I kept reading about online!
I tend to believe the best things come from the people who live and love... not big corporations!
