Does anyone here feed..
Alpha herbal deluxe rabbit food to their hamsters? I bought a big bag to make up my rat's mix with and noticed when I bought it that it says:
"Formulated for those rabbits that prefer a pellet-free diet. The higher level of vitamin C makes this food especially suitable for guinea pigs as well as rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, rats and mice."
And this is what is in it:
cooked flaked peas
extruded wheat discs
cooked flaked maize
roled oats
cooked flaked beans
whole wheat
cooked flaked barley
locust beans
soya oil
dried natural grass
dried herbs
minerals and vitamins
EC permitted colourings and preservatives
Nutritional analysis
Protein 14%
Oil 3.9%
Fibre 5%
Ash 3.9New
Vitamin A 11000 iu/kg
Vitamin D3 1000 iu/kg
Vitamin E 38 iu/kg
Vitamin C 250 mg/kg
copper as cupric sulphate 9.5 mg/kg
This is on every site that sells it. So as I have 3 gerbils as well as the 3 hamsters and buy it to make rat mix, I thought I would save quite a bit if I fed the gerbs and hams on it as well. Much better value than the small bags of foods, and I also buy big bags of bird seed to mix in for the rats, which I would also give to the hams and gerbs. Would this be ok and does anyone else use it?

Re: Does anyone here feed..
The % are wrong for hamsters.
Hamsters need 19% Protein, 6% Fat & 8% Fibre.
Also there is too much vitamin c for hamsters.
Gerbils need 15.5% Protein, 8% Fat & Fibre 7%
So it's not ideal for them either

Re: Does anyone here feed..
Shoot, is there any way I can use it by adding something else then? I am sick of buying those tiny useless bags that don't last and are expensive gerbil ones are nearly £4 for some reason!!

Consider yourself lucky because Supreme Hazel/Harry Hamster food is $9.99 here (over £6)

Re: Does anyone here feed..
I am afraid not.
If you add anything to the mix the % then do change but you will not know what they have changed to unless you have the mix analysed.
The best commercial food is Harry Hamster for hamsters lol & Gerri Gerbil food for Gerbils lol.
They have the correct % & can be brought in shops or on line.
My Hamster mix's also have the correct % you can buy them on line at Ratrations Hamster Mixtures : ratRations.com.
I am at the moment testing Gerbil mix's which will go on Ratrations at some point

Re: Does anyone here feed..
Why not buy Silvers mixes? Postage is expensive but works out cheaper in the long run considering how cheap the actual mixes are. 90p worth of Syrian food lasts a long, long time.

Re: Does anyone here feed..
To sell more bags of food. It's a profit making comapny.
Neither of them will be the correct % for both species as the % they both need are very different from each other in my other post.
The only commercial food that has the correct % are Harry Hamster, Gerri Gerbil or my hamster food.

The postage is really pricey on RR for some reason. paying 90p for a bag of food but £5+ for postage is a tad expensive. But the main reason is, and I know it is a silly reason, but there is mealworms in it and I can't stand them! They're gross and squick me out! S'why I don't feed supahamster harvest either. Also, I dont' think I can feed it to the gerbils, but I'm not 100% on that one.
