Default Question for Silver

Dear Silver,

Hope you don't mind but I'd appreciate some guidance.

I'm just about to place an order for some (1kg, should i get more?) of your Syrian mix for our imminent syrian.

Because of the shipping cost I'm keen to bulk up my order. What else would you recommend for a baby syrian from the Rat Rations site? Or should I keep the diet plain with a young hamster?

Should I mix the new mix with their existing mix and switch over gradually the way I do with the rabbits (sorry been a few decades since I last had a hamster!)? With rabbits we use a pelleted science selective food, I see there is one for hamsters, should I mix it with your mix (do hamsters tend to selective feed like rabbits, I remember my hamsters used to avoid certain grains)?

Many thanks for any advice!

I know I'm not Silver, but I just wanted to say, hamsters don't tend to selective feed on Silver's mix, as it's designed to be healthy and tasty for hammies, so there's no need for additional pellet food

oh that's good, I am used to fussy rabbits. The mix has great reviews on here, it looks nice and natural too, no fluorescent colours! Thank you.

That's great, how much do you buy at a time and how many weeks does it last you if you don't mind my asking? i know it lasts for a year in a sealed container so I'm tempted to buy 'in bulk'.

Hello Hammy's R Best,

Thank You for choosing my mix's. What I advise is to find out what the ham has been fed & mix in half of that food & half of my food for two weeks. This is just to make sure there tummy does not get upset.

Some hams are fussy eaters & all will pick the best bits out first, so fill the bowl then leave it until it is all or mostly gone before you top up, bear in mine they will store some.

There are so many different thins on Ratrations that hams can eat & love, but I would keep it quiet simple to start off with especially as the ham will be getting used to there new place & food.

So I would say Pumpkin seeds one two times a week Pumpkin Seed - £1.72 : ratRations.com

Sunflower seeds same as above Sunflower - Black - £0.19 : ratRations.com or can have white ones Sunflower - White - £0.22 : ratRations.com

Dog biscuit one a week to keep hams teeth trimmed Denes Wholegrain Mixer - £0.72 : ratRations.com

Mixed Puffs are also good different texture nothing added no sugar, salt or addatives so kind on tummy's Mixed Puffs - £1.14 : ratRations.com

Barley Rings are also good Barley Rings - £0.33 : ratRations.com

Any of the above are good but don't introduce them all at once. The mix's are good for a year from purchase if kept in a air tight container.

Edited just to say I do not know how much a Syrian will eat in so many months as I have not kept Syrians but hopefully some one will start a mix write the date down & see how long it takes them to get through a set amount

Lovely, I ordered it all and it came in at 18 pounds inc postage. I ordered a kilo each of mix plus banana and mix plus apple. A bargain! Much cheaper than my rabbits who get through bales of hay and giant sacks of pellets and veg, lol. Thanks for making this mix, it's great to know there is something you can trust.
