Foods for Extra fibre?
Okay so I have this hamster Muesli which has pretty much ideal %'s of protien, fats etc...except it's a little low in fibre, what foods can I give my hamster to give her a little fibre boost?
Thanks x

Re: Foods for Extra fibre?
If you add something you have no way of knowing what the % of Protein/fat/fibre are without getting the mix analysed.
If you add one thing to increase the fibre, it will alter the % of fat & Protein as well at the fibre.

Re: Foods for Extra fibre?
Sandti, do you mean you want something fibrous to ADD to the mix, or as a supplement (like when we offer them mealworm treats etc)? if the prior, Silver is right, I wouldn't go around messing with a ready-made mix tbh because you don't know how you'll have altered the other %s. but if the latter, I think it should be fine! you can offer Zoro things like pasta (cooked or uncooked), rice (cooked), bread, or breakfast cereals that aren't too sharp like cornflakes, in case they pouch, and don't have too much sugar, like Coco Pops or something. I think some of the members here give the occasional Weetabix type biscuit as a treat, and I can assure you that my hams reeeeally love porridge.

Re: Foods for Extra fibre?
I meant as a supplement to make sure that she is getting enough :3. I wouldn't mess around with the mix cos I'd prolly end up poisoning her XD
When you say porridge, do you mean the oats or made up?

Re: Foods for Extra fibre?
I don't see why not. I usually make mine with milk - Hamburglar gets a little less as I don't want him getting obese since he's more or less fully grown, but Badger gets a nice dollop since he's still a growing young lad.

Re: Foods for Extra fibre?
If its just as a treat popcorn is good for fibre. Plain though, no coatings. You can get hamster popcorn, try eBay. The blueberry goes down well. Mine will eat a bran flake or most things out of a box of fruit and fibre.
