Just actually discussed this with hubby as there's a ? over us getting a chinese ham. atm we get 8.4kg of Burgess in bulk (lots of bags) for about £34. If we were to order your mixes (at current pricing) 2kg of dwarf mix 1 and 5kg of syrian mix, with postage it would work out at about £35, which is a price difference we'd be willing to pay if there was a plain mix available. My only question is why is the dwarf mixes so much more expensive than the syrian mixes?

My main concern would be to make it cost effective i'd have to order in bulk - which is obv a massive waste if its not liked :s

I've already asked that question It's because of the mealworms and krill in the dwarf mixes.

Hello Mona & thank You Kissa,

Yes it is because the cost of mealworms & Krill is much more expensive than other seeds/grains. As the Syrian mix's do not have them in it is much cheaper.

Then can i be a pain and ask what the advantage of having the krill in is? Sorry i can't really find any information on it and would think the mix would be more appealing if it was cheaper, and missed these two items, as most dwarf owners will buy mealies especially as treats anyway (in fact a lot of people i've spoken to, pick mealworms out of food, and use them as treats).

I'm not criticising btw, just genuinely trying to learn all this stuff

It is really hard to find something that is low fat but high in Protein which the dwarfs will eat. Fish cover's this well. Also there are so many vitamins & minerals in the fish that benefit the hammy's.

I do understand that people buy extra mealworms to give as treats but I am making complete dwarf hamster mix's & without mealworms it is not complete.

I do understand about the cost of the dwarf hamster mix's is high & only this afternoon I have been trying to re work the dwarf mix's to try & bring the price down by not adding the fish.

What mix I was left with has 4 less ingredients along with the fish making it 5 less ingredients because I can not have them if the fish is taken out as this makes the fat go sky high. To me I would not sell this mix as it is not really in my eye's worth what ever the cost would be however much lower in price because it is just not varied enough.

Now this does not mean I will stop trying to make a cheaper dwarf hamster mix, because I will. I will also keep trying the big hamster food company's to see if they will take on my mix's or mix. This way it would be in pet shop's no P&P.

I can only keep trying

Thanks, i understand it a bit more now I was confused as to the benefits of Krill, but you've explained it perfectly I would definitely give the dwarf mix a go if i was to get a dwarf that needed it, and would probs switch the syrians over if the mix without fruit went ahead thanks for your help x

I am going to be putting an order in soon and would happily buy the fruit mix. I know how much mine love the dwarf mix and its complete so the bananas I assume are part of the balance. I don't feed many treats at all by hand and so it will make no difference as its not as if he is also getting lots of dried fruit and treats day to day.

Thank You Gamina,

Yes the fruit is calculated into the mix so your hammy's will be getting the correct %
