Default Banana and oat-gets the paws up from Hammy :0)

I've just made Hammy sme mashed up banana with dry porridge oats and a little water and he LOVED it it was lovely watching him enjoying it,so I think we have a new fave will make more tomorrow and store it in the fridge.I think I'll give it him daily, that should help keep his weight up and give him plenty of energy for playtime and running in his ball and wheel xx

Angel loves oats and banana - we haven't given her it together.
I did write on another thread that I give Angel daily bannana but I was warned off this by other members who think to much fresh stuff isn't good for them. I now give her nana around once a week.

Fresh `raw` food can be fed daily, but in very small amounts (I`m talking small 5mm pieces here) as long as they are limited to what your hamster actually enjoys. I usually stick to broccoli, carrot, apple and cauliflower and occassionally, the mashed slice of banana mixed with dry oats. I bought a bag of Mung beans from Tesco and I place a few in a jar of cold water, just enough to cover the beans and they sprout within 48 hours. Mung beans are basically bean sprouts, but in bean form. I feed one to my syrian a few times a week and half a sprouted bean to my robo and they always enjoy them.

I agree,it's fine if it's fed in very small daily pieces I was just feeding Hammy his oats, but due to him struggling with eating harder foods,I wanted something that would be a good energy source for him and heard about the banana mashed with oats and it's definately a winner.
My syrians get a little fresh food daily and my dwarf hams, get fresh stuff 2-3 times a week (small amounts,as I know they are at risk of diabetes)
As long as the fresh food is slowly introduced there shouldn't be a problem and if they ever do get the runs, you just take the foods off them until the runs have gone and then slowly re- introduce the fresh foods.xx

Very true hammymad. Veggies fed fresh and raw are also highly beneficial for their vitamin and health benefits. Broccoli especially.

So we tried some porridge oats with banana and milk last night.

Angels Mummy got the mid night munchies so I was sent off to make some porridge. I put a little aside for Angel and mashed in a little nana. She loved it - She licked the bowl clean ! So another thumbs up or paws up.

Remember you don`t need to cook the oats just sprinkle them dry into the banana and mix them together with a fork.
