Post Need help with low phosphorus and sodium diet

My ~1 year old hybrid Lucy has been diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure / Chronic Kidney Disease. Along with low protein in her diet, low phosphate and sodium content is recommended. Problem is, lots of good foods are high or moderate in phosphorus constituents. And most hamster mixes seem to contain phosphorus additives (general food additives can be Calcium phosphate, Disodium phosphate, Phosphoric acid, Tricalcium phosphate, Monopotassium phosphate, Pyrophosphate polyphosphates) and most have added salt (sodium chloride).

Then, foods that are good for hamsters are also high in phosphorus, like oats, peanuts, flax seeds (good for omega-3), broccoli, spinach, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds,... You get the idea...

So has anyone tried putting together a reasonable list of foods low to moderate in phosphorus and sodium and protein for hamsters with kidney failure? (usually elderly hamsters) I'm working on a list right now, but if anyone has contributions, Lucy and I would be very grateful

could you try looking for the diets in humans? They might list food items you could give Lucy.

Thanks, that's what I've been doing. But it turns out that lots of good hamster ingredients are also high in phosphorus, so this will be a puzzle to work out.

I would highly recommend getting yourself a copy of "The Scuttling Gormet" its a book based around rat nutrition. The book has sections on all types of food and their nutritional values focusing on all aspects of nutrition. There is a lot of helpful info about the foods that a rat with a kidney problem could eat. It is something that elderly rats suffer with quite a lot.
I buy up my individual items for mixes here Complete Ready to Use Mixtures : ratRations.com, Rat food, base mixes and herbs as they have an amazing range of things to make a mix compatible with your animal. Whilst both the book and the site are aimed at rat owners I am sure they will help you make a good balanced diet for Lucy.

Also here is an example of a healthy mix made up (although for rats) that is kidney friendly. Rat rations have kidney friendly mixes you may want to look into as well. Fancy Rats | Information | The Kidney Diet

Thank you very much--I will look into those.

In the meantime, here's a list I'm working on (still need to fill in more omega-3 values and food varieties), based on nutritional values from this site:
