Spiders?
This may sound revolting but we seem to be well and truly into spider season so I was wondering . . .
. . . if hamsters eat mealworms and crickets (and a friend of mine used to feed hers moths), would they eat house spiders???

Re: Spiders?
You know I've never really thought about. I guess in the wild they would come across and probably eat them, what with their natural foraging and all.
It would be a handy way to keep the spider numbers down in your house if they could! Though the thought of Cookie with a spider in her mouth unsettles me somewhat

Re: Spiders?
I expect they would eat them, although I remember someone on here posting about their hamster freaking out when a moth went in its cage lol!
In the three years I've lived here I've only seen two, maybe three spiders though so I dont think Luna will be eating any.

Re: Spiders?
Thistle has had spiders in her cage before and simply ignored them :L I think mine would all be too lazy to hunt live ones but I suppose they might try one that was already dead... I quite like spiders though so I wouldnt want to encourage my hams

Re: Spiders?
I like the pretty spiders outside and I don't have a major problem with a couple inside to trap flies, but we have loads at the moment. I might try putting one in Dinah's cage and seeing how she reacts . . .

Re: Spiders?
Greyjoy and the rats are always eating the spiders that live in the hallway at playtime.

Re: Spiders?
I wouldn't want to kiss my boys after knowing they had eaten a spider.
We had a huge one the other night, and Pickle was watching it.. he looked petrified!

Re: Spiders?
cant see any reason why they wouldnt if they had the chance, personally i wouldnt let them though (if i saw it) as you dont really know what a wild spider is carrying

Re: Spiders?
Holly has eaten both a fly and a small spider! There was a really big spider in the bath this week, I thought of offering it to him but it was really a big one and I didnt want to freak him out.

The tiniest of moths frighten Cookie so I imagine she'd react much like Pickle!
