Re: melted cheese? :D
I would say it depends on the other ingredients in a cheese toastie? (not something I've heard of)
So long as the cheese cool enough to be safe I don't see why this would be a problem...unless there's some evidence that it could be difficult for a ham to swallow? Or might get stuck in a cheek pocket like other sticky foods can?
Now I'm curious too! I will be returing to this thread to see what others think!

Re: melted cheese? :D
I think it'd be about the same as giving plain toast with unmelted cheese. You'd go by the same rules as for any cheese--I guess low fat and no spices.

Re: melted cheese? :D
I think that as long as the cheese isn't too sticky it'll be ok. I have to go make a grilled cheese sammich now... that sound so yummy!

Re: melted cheese? :D
I have given my hamsters this before, but just before the point of it being too gooey and once it's cooled so it doesn't get stuck on their paws (therefore going all over them) and they loved it! I didn't put any spread on the toast though and cheese was just normal chedder
