Home made mix
So upon inspecting the available foods at my local pet stores, I realized how unappealing and pricey they can be. I decided I wanted to make my own mix, and did some research as to what should be included.
Does anyone here make their own mixes?
Here is my list so far, please let me know if something should be added (or taken out):
Millet,
Sunflower seed,
Lentils,
Flax seed,
Pumpkin seed.
Small amounts of:
Peanut,
Whole wheat,
Dried fruit including: apple, apricot, banana, pineapple, and mango,
Pellets.
She also gets a fresh fruit or veggie a day, as well as a piece of egg right now since shes nursing.
Thanks!

Re: Home made mix
I don't know a huge amount about making my own mix but I have been trying. I wouldn't use sun flower seeds as a main ingredient, simply because they are high in fat and most people feed them as treats rather than as a base part of the food.
Also, what do you mean by pellets?

Re: Home made mix
The sunflower seeds are pretty sparse. However, not as sparce as the rest.
And when I say pellets I mean the pellets usually seen in food, the alfalfa type. (you know, those things they tend to just pick out and throw on the floor... heh.)

Re: Home made mix
Hello,
This is something I have been researching for a long time. I have made up three of my own hamster mix's & have researched about it in different country's also. I am waiting on my mix's to be analysed & then I will be able to sell them if the mix's are right.

Re: Home made mix
It seems as if we do. Is that a very good brand? Because I know we have a hard time finding that Harry hamster brand. =\

Re: Home made mix
As far as I know, Hazel Hamster is exactly the same as Harry Hamster they just changed the name for US people for some reason.
It's a great mix and has the perfect amount of nutrients although things such as porridge oats and dried mealworms can be added to give it more variety.
