Ive had that before in a bag of Wagg hammy food. Except there were about 20 wriggling round in there and it smelled awful! The ones I had were abit like caterpillars and ended up hatching a small moth things..
I tipped it all into a plastic bag to take in and complain to the store, but overnight some actually chewed holes in the bag :S I would take it and complain - you should atleast get a fresh bag free of charge!

You could do both. Is the container made of sealed plastic or paper? If the latter--it could easily have become contaminated during storage somewhere, but if plastic, chances are higher that the worm eggs were put in during the manufacturing/packing process.

Eww I really hope that was a one-off! I am terrified of wormy things and would never go near that food again

when i got the food i opened the pack and moved it staight into two plastic containers just so its easier to feed him everyday. one container was on my desk and the other was under my bed, and both had cocoons in the lid, so theres definatly something in there!

Is it at all possible that the containers got eggs on them somehow (from being near a window or whatever...)?

ermm i dont think so, they were new containers i got them the same day i got the food, and half of the food went in one that was on my desk and the other half under my bed. the one of my desk might of, but that doesnt explain how the one under my bed also had a cocoon. The cocoon i openend definatly looked like a meal worm, so i doubt there meal worm eggs flying around hehe and all his other food is also on my desk in the same containers and they are fine, hehe. they said they will investigate the sample and let me know what it is.

burgess have been very helpful and have been replying to emails very quickly. They said they will send me out vouchers to replace the food and even offered to send me a envelope to send them a sample even though its a free post address, so i thought that was really nice!

That would of freaked me out too. I'm sure it won't of harmed little Kevin, after all they do eat mealworms & other bugs in the wild.
