Default What should go in my mix?

I'm not really satisfied with what most mixes on the market seem to be offering, and I want to make my own mix. This is what I was thinking of putting in it:

base: Wilkinson's hamster mix
+ Trill budgie food
+ Flax seeds
+ Oats
+ Kitten biscuits (poultry flavoured)
+ Puffed rice (like unsweetened Rice Krispies cereal)
+ Crushed bran flakes
+ JR Farm field herbs
+ Pets at Home hamster nuggets
+ Sunflower seeds
+ Pumpkin seeds
+ I was also thinking of some tofu for protein, can they eat it dried?

So what do you think? Which out of those should I include, anything else to add, and how much of each thing should go into the mix?

I've heard uncooked lentils are unsafe .. but the barley and crackers sounds like a good idea.

A lot of lovely stuff there, be sure to make sure the mix mainly consists of the base hamster mix so they aren't too overloaded with yummy not-so nutritional stuff

You may not need to put additional sunflower seeds in, as the mix should have a lot already. Tofu is a great supplement for extra protein, but with hamster mix and kitten biscuits already added its not really necessary and you don't want to overload on protein. Especially if feeding the mix to older hamsters.

Once you make it you'll be able to test things out and find out what goes down well and what doesn't. So you can change and rearrange the mix as you go along until you get it right

I was just going to say, does the base not contain sunflower seeds? If it does you won't need extra ones.

i use sunflower seeds (and also pumpkin seeds) as treats because they're quite high in fat

I only give my hamsters a maximum of 5 sunflower seeds a week, as they get millet and linseed and as mentioned above - they're really fatty. I've heard things like millet are a better fat than sunflower seeds. But don't quote me on that

It does contain sunflower seeds but they seem to be few and far between. On another forum I frequent, many believe it's good to give quite a few sunflower seeds daily. But with the other seeds in, then I probably won't add any. And maybe just a handful of pumpkin seeds if they're fatty.

As for the lentils, I was going by this: Do Not Feed Raw Beans, Peas & Lentils - Hamster Shelter @ SG
