Default Another cookie recipe

Here is a recipe for cookies for Syrian Hamsters ONLY! This recipe has more common ingredients.

PEANUT APPLE HAMSTER COOKIES

1/2 cup (125 ml) whole wheat flour
3 Tablespoons (45 ml) finely chopped peanuts(unsalted)
1 1/2 Tablespoons (22 ml) finely grated apple(or chopped raisins)
1/4 cup (60 ml) apple juice or milk
2 teaspoons (10 ml) cod liver oil or olive oil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Farenheit or 177 degrees Celsius.

Mix flour and peanuts together in a bowl.

Measure finely grated apple and apple juice or milk into a small bowl and stir in oil with a whisk.

Pour liquid mixture over flour mixture and stir to make a dough. Add a little more juice or milk if dough is too dry. Add a little more flour if dough is too wet.

With floured hands shape dough into jelly bean sized cookies and place on a cookie tray. Bake in oven for about 15 minutes. Let cookies cool completely.

Keep baked cookies in an air tight container in the fridge but watch that they do not become mouldy. It is better to keep them in the freezer and thaw only enough for a couple of days at a time. DO NOT FEED TO YOUR HAMSTER IF THE COOKIES BECOME MOULDY.

Feed your hamster no more than ONE COOKIE A DAY!

P.S. I eat these cookies too! One for hammie and one for me!

I recommend that you freeze them since they don't have any preservatives in them. They can go mouldy after several days in the fridge but will remain fresh in the freezer in an airtight container.

Thanks for reminding me. I will add that to the recipe.

There is going to be some pretty happy hammies out there!!

It is a good idea to use up the cookies as quickly as possible so I give my syrians ONE COOKIE EACH DAY. Just make sure that they don't store the cookie in their corner for more than a couple of days because you don't want it to go mouldy. I always check to see if they have eaten the last one before they get a fresh one. But I find that they ALWAYS eat the cookie before any of their other food. Proof that they LOVE them!

I checked my oven's manual and it says that 350 degrees Fahrenheit equals 177 degrees Celsius.

I call them "cookies" because they are treats, not because they look like "cookies for people"! They don't change shape when they cook.

I have experimented with the dough being quite wet and sticky and when it is firm and find that the cookies still turn out fine either way. It is just easier to form them into shape when the dough is firm and sticks together in a neat ball.

Let me know how your hammy likes them!

They came out fine I tasted a couple and they were yummy :P I gave Charlie one and he loved it. I also gave my sister a couple for her hammies. The rest (except a couple) are in the freezer now. I have a few pics that I will post tomorrow. I didn't make them into any shapes, just little blobs :P

edit: here is a photo of how they turned out

Your cookies look delicious! They look huge! Charlie is one spoiled hammie!

I usually shape mine into smooth jelly bean shapes and small enough for them to stuff in their cheeks BUT I am sure Charlie was THRILLED to drag or carry one of those to his bed or food corner!

Thanks for sharing the photo. I love it!
