Re: Dry dog food?
Dog kibbles are usually very high in protein and fat unless they are meant for `senior` older dogs and many are vegetable based and basted with meat juices and `animal derivitives` to flavour them. I would`nt want to feed this to a hamster. Many hamster mixes already have added protein in the form of extruded biscuits, so there is no need to add it from another source. Too high a protein could result in kidney problems in hamsters.
Dog kibbles being fed to rats came about by the introduction of the `Shunamite Diet` which was based around a US version. Many people took on board the fact that dog kibble was part of that diet and extended it into diets for other small animals, when in fact, the dog kibble would only be a small part of the actual rat diet IF the owner was`nt already adding animal proteins by using a commercial rat mix, so otherwise, the dog kibble would`nt be needed at all.
I can`t comment on the cat/kitten kibble, but I`m assuming this would also be high in protein and fat?
