Default Fruits?

Not sure if it belongs here or in the Winter White section

I've read several lists saying that fruit is not okay for dwarves due to high sugar levels. Does this only apply to Campbells, as I know they can easily get diabetes?

Is fruit okay for a Winter White?

This can apply to winter whites, campbells, russian hybrids and chinese.
Not sure how common it is for roborovskis to get diabetes :/

I rarely give fruit to mine anyway, but it is extremely rare for either Treo or Bacardi (especially with his brother having diabetes)
They normally will only have it once every few months at most.

so oscar will be fine, but as you don't know his family history of diabetes, just feed very rarely

He's from a breeder with no history of Diabetes, does that mean it will be safe to feed?

I only really have grapes, banana and apple so he won't be fed much anyway.

ah my bad, I forgot he was from a breeder
It makes the changes less that he will get diabetes but of course theres always a chance as it does just 'pop up' in lines sometimes.

But yh it is fine to feed in moderation. But I prefer to stick to vegetables to be on the safe side

Don't worry, I get confused with all the hamsters on here!

I'll probably feed him a bit like once a month, thanks for your help.

I'm very paranoid with sugary anything with my dwarfs, so really don't ever give them any fruit or anything sugary! is that bad??they get plenty veggie things and stuff though. With robos I used to though. I got really annoyed a while ago because i'd ordered some veggie chew things online for the all the hams then when i got them and read the ingredients, sugar was like the second main ingredient!! >

I can still give them to the syrians but still! Anyhoo wee rambling post there....hehe

Fresh veg alone is fine. I just wanted to see if Oscar could have fruit as I eat more of that than I do veg.
