Mealworms
Hi all
I bought Honey some mealworms as I've heard hamsters love them which she does! (They creep me out though so I have to get the BF to give them to her )
How many are they allowed to have per week? I've heard they are quite fattening (if that's the right word!) so I don't want to be over feeding her.
Thanks

Re: Mealworms
I normally give a couple a day as treats. They are in some hamster mixes though so it may be ok to give more - I'm not too sure.

Re: Mealworms
I saw something about their jaws can cause a lot of damage to hamsters?????
Also, can I feed dried mealworms (the type that are readily available for birds) ...and come in their own resealable package. If so, how many of these are okay?
Thanks

Re: Mealworms
Live mealworms are fine to feed and have never affected my animals.
I feed a couple a day of the dried mealworms.

Re: Mealworms
I tend to give mine about one a day...but since yours is a syrian she could have more.
The dried ones are fine, and it's true that the live ones can bite, but your hammy could probably beat it
I've never used live because they're gross..mine love the dried ones just fine

Re: Mealworms
Well I'm creeped out enough by the dried ones so I don't think I could cope with the live ones!!

The thing that bugs me is the smell they leave on your fingers >.<

Re: Mealworms
If they don't like them, birds sure do I gave the birds some at christmas, I suspect just one bird came along and kept eating them all, as I didn't see any birds but they kept vanishing
I keep my meal worms in an old coffee jar, as I found the bags you get of them from p@h can be tricky to open with a hammy in one hand
But yeah, they're quite expensive (£3.99 a bag) but they last forever well..unless you have chubsters like mine ;p

Re: Mealworms
I ordered mine from UK Pet Supplies, can't remember how much they were exactly but remember they were cheaper that P@H. Like you say though they will last forever.
