Default Is bamboo safe for hamsters?

We have bamboo growing in the back garden of the house we are renting. Is it safe to cut off a bit of it to give to Wiggles as a kind of chew stick? Some of it has a 1/1,5cm diameter so it is thin enough.
It's good because I know it doesn't have all this extra sugar etc but I'm not sure if there's some kind of unhealthy substance in it.
I looked on the list of safe/unsafe plants on HC wiki and I didn't see bamboo on there, so does anyone know?
