Default *Warning?* Bloody Blueberries

I put a warning on this because it might be a little too detailed for those with squeamish stomachs <3

-----------------------

So i grabbed the hammies today to let them play in all their new toys their daddy bought them for christmas (because we love to spoil our babies XD). I had them all set up in their playpen, Tiffy in one, Purl in another (not sure if they're allowed to play together?) and i tossed two "Fiesta Blueberry yogurt" treats--

in for them to munch on. I turned around to clean their cages while Jim played with them both, and then we switched. (They both currently have identical green cages like the first intro post to them, with nearly identical toys/wheels inside-- but that's besides the point.)

I set them both on the kitchen table while i put away their playpen and toys, when i realized Purl looked odd... she looked distinctly, Red Of course i freaked out, thinking maybe i put the playpens too close together, or maybe Jim (while i was in the other room) had set them together to play, and that Purl had gotten attacked!

I quickly swept her up (luckily she *loves* being held, so she climbs right into my hand) and held her up to the light to see if she was injured. I thought maybe her bottom lip had been ripped off since she can stick her nose through the bars of the playpen... it looked swollen and bright red.

It took me a minute, before it dawned on me... blueberries always stained my hands red back when i used to crush them making jams and such, perhaps it stained her fur?? I ended up taking a paper towel and wiping her chin/face (much to her disproval) until it was all wiped away and i could see that she still had her bottom lip, and that it was probably just the yogurt and since it was all gone, i had nothing to worry about!

Of course worrywort me, kept checking on her every ten minutes to make sure it really was the treats and not me just wiping away bloody goo... when i saw it again. Bigger, more swollen-looking and distinctly bloody! There i go again... i scooped her up, wiped her off, and contemplated taking her to the vet before i realized she had one of the freaking blueberry treats in her pouch... the yogurt was goo-ing out and dripping down her chin making it look bloody.

*facepalm*

I just about cried with happiness when i realized she was okay. but her fur is a pretty pink-ish color now! XD

I swear i am NEVER buying those treats again!!! O.O

I remember Spud's mum bought one of those green nibble stick chew treats once and her hamster was totally green in the morning! It was freaky - she looked like the incredible hulk! It took a while for the dye to come out too!

A similar thing used to happen to my dog..only she'd end up with a multicoloured bottom

Glad the little one is ok, and just a chubster with her treats
