Re: Weetabix okay ... ?
Milk is not good for hams so if you DO use milk, only a drop, but if you want your weetabix really mushy just use water x

Re: Weetabix okay ... ?
Hi, my rspca book suggests for pregnant and lactating females 'a mash of fine oatmeal (porridge oats I think) with milk'. I think weetabix is probably ok and I've read in a few places that milk can be given safely. The book suggests pregnant females need a little more protein. It was published 1990 though so information could be very out of date.
I think the problem with milk and fresh produce is that it can go off, if left in the cage and not eaten, so you need to give amounts that will be eaten same day (or check the food stashes when she's busy elsewhere take out anything left over). This is important as gone off milk (and other foods) can make her poorly, as you prob know already.
Not confident of this advice but thought it might be helpful. x
(p.s Bought the rspca book less than 10 years ago so the advice was still relevant around 2002)

Re: Weetabix okay ... ?
I have given weetabix as a treat mixed with kitten milk. I have used cows' milk, but prefer to use Lactol or kitten milk as it has less lactose (which is what hamsters may struggle with). Make sure you remove any uneaten fresh mashes etc as it quickly can go mouldy.
I generally only give a couple of teaspoons at a time to one hamster, so they still eat their hamster mix. I did once make the mistake of feeding lots of extras and was confused when the hamsters lost condition. It was because they were leaving the boring mix and eating all the fun stuff instead (just like I would tbh!).
If there are pups in the nest make sure to put any milky foods or mashes in a shallow dish, e.g. a saucer or a jar lid. Pups could drown in milky foods in a normal dish if they fall in and can't get out again.

Aah, I didn't know about problems with high level lactose in cows milk. x
