Human food for hamsters
Hi, As i'm a worrier i thought i would get the opinions of the people on here regarding feeding human food to hamsters.. My syrians love other foods. their main feed is Harry Hamster...( I've recently changed from WAGG as i found it to be full of seeds) anyways... especially Poppet my three like
Carrot, Peas, cauliflower, Broccoli, Green Beans, Cooked white rice, digestives, soya milk, cereals such as rice krispies, shreddies, Bread, banana, grapes, also loving yoghurt drops, chocolate drops, and locust bean treats.
I know these can be given in moderation but i'm concerned that i may be over doing it a little. Poppet more than ther others will hold off her bowl until i'm sitting down to eat to see what she can get as extras...I give maybe about two or three of the above things every two days.. is this too much? She is getting podgy but i think this may be due to age as she's not using the wheel as much, hates the ball but love floor time. Do hamsters become more sleepy with age?

Re: Human food for hamsters
I think you might be giving her a bit too much!
Its important shes not overfed on treats and eats all her harry hamster
I've found that Peggys actually lost weight as shes got older, but she does do lots of exercise so i suppose it could go either way.
Mine get veggies twice a week, and any other treats like yoggie drops probbaly once a week, twice at most

Re: Human food for hamsters
i never give mine choc drops - i find they prefer dandelion leaves (well i do want to treat them - if i have money lol). if their not eatingall their food then cut down on treats, if they do, then fair enough but dont overdo it definitly
