Meet Cupcake

I was thinking of opening one end of the Detolf, and laying one goes over the side like this /|\ (but not steep). She could come out and adventure around a cordoned off area of the living room.

I do have some good news with Cupcake though! We finally had an interaction late last night. I was having a hard time getting to sleep, and sat down next to her bin. She came out, and sat in her food dish to munch some seeds. Cupcake was super relaxed, spent several minutes picking out her favorites and enjoying them.

After she was done, she gave me her old mini charge as if to say "YOU'RE STILL HERE!". I loved it, her personality hasn't changed one bit. I got to see why she's flipping & banging the castle around, she keeps moving behind it and wants a way around. She did a little slow crawl towards me while flat to the ground, then went back into her burrow. We got to have a little chat, and they weren't angry clicks.

She was also up when I woke up late this morning, came out for half a minute, then went back into a tunnel. Cupcake made some new chirps, they sounded a bit sad. It seems like her sleep schedule has moved a few hours later, and she might have less energy with the seasons changing like Ria mentioned. I'm thrilled to finally see her and interact for the first time in about 3 weeks though. Cupcake is as adorable as ever.

Would Cupcake be able to find her way back in?

Oh yeah, it won't be anything dramatic. Like 6 square feet or so with the old toys and hides she used to enjoy in my room. She's been chatty again today, maybe she's finally warming up again

Personally I wouldn't risk letting a hamster have constant access to a playpen or free roaming or anything of the sort where you're not going to supervise them. Even if you think you've completely hamster proofed a space, they do tend to inevitably find some way to get into trouble if you're not paying attention!

That being said, you could figure out a way to attach a ramp that can be easily removed to let your hamster out on her own terms during supervised playpen/free roam times. I know I've seen people do similar things for guinea pigs, but a hamster version could be very helpful.

He looks like a Syrian but can't be. He'd be too small to be away from his mother. He must be a dwarfie then.
